ABOUT US

We are a worker's co-operative currently with nine members.

Jill Essam - a geographer and biologist. Jill has considerable expertise and experience in community development work and field studies. Jill has been the main driving force behind our project and is largely responsble for educational activities, community composting, fundraising, feeding volunteers and sorting out problems.

Tom Mercer - a marine biologist who has experience in animal husbandry. Tom has developed and manages the Carp farm when he's not diving for tiny little beasties.

Ray Gill - a musician and green woodworker. Ray has been a crucial member of the classroom's construction team. He will be involved in green woodworking training at the quarry as well as other rural skills training projects.

Liz Gill - teacher and musiciany arty person. Liz teaches full timeat Wearhead School in the upper dale and gets involved as and when.

Sue Cooper - a Geologist and busy mother of three. Sue is active in the Rock Detectives and community composting scheme.

Rachel Clarke - an artist and arts co-ordinator. Rachel is one of the evil geniuses behind the amazing 'Rock Cops' and 'It Rocks', educational entertainments for young people. Rachel is involved in a long term arts project 'Semi-Precious' which stems from her residency in the Klondike tracing the life of a 19th Century Weardale miner.

Guy Rawlinson - a self employed landscape architect. Guy has been responsible for the design and implementation of developments in the quarry.

Jill Dales - an educator at Newcastle University medical school. Jill brings her educational expertise to the project as well as devoting time to the construction of the classroom.

Steve Dales - a visual artist and film-maker. Steve is developing arts and media activities based in the quarry.
