GREEN WOODWORKING

Visitors enjoying a green woodworking course.

Our resident green woodworker, Ray Gill (in red) leads a course outside our straw bale workshop.

These visitors enjoyed a day's 'bodging' (making parts for chairs) using traditional methods such as shavehorses and pole lathes. The wood they are working is Ash taken from the quarry's woodlands, which are managed by Ray.

We are able to organise courses and workshops.

Contact Ray for details.

THE ROCK DETECTIVES CLUB

Logo of the Rock Detectives Club

The Rock Detectives meet every two months to discuss their latest cases and investigate new and exciting geological crime scenes.

A popular and enjoyable introduction to geology for young people involving activities at the quarry and trips to interesting places.

The club is run by Jill E. and Su.

COMMUNITY COMPOSTING

The old electric milk float which is used to collect garden waste.

We use a recycled electric milk float to collect garden waste for composting. The milk float's batteries are charged through our alternative energy system.
Residents of Frosterley village become members of the scheme for a small charge. Each member household is provided with sacks which are collected fortnightly.
The waste is composted in large 'bins' as shown below.
Eventually (Co.Durham climate permitting)the compost will be available for purchase.
The scheme began in autumn 2006.
